How to Download Your Garmin Dive History into the Freediver App

Bring the dives already recorded on your Garmin dive computer into your training log in the Freediver app, so your whole depth history sits in one place.

Bring your whole Garmin dive history across

The dives recorded on your Garmin dive computer end up in Garmin Connect — and they belong in your training log too, next to the sessions you planned. Fit Sync, a free Chrome extension, moves them there: your entire history in one go, with no files to download by hand and nothing to retype.

What you need

  • Chrome, or another Chromium-based browser.
  • To be signed in to Garmin Connect in that same browser.
  • A Freediver account.
  • Dives already synced from your watch to Garmin Connect — the extension works with what is in Garmin's cloud.

Fit Sync is a third-party, open-source tool. It never asks for your Garmin password — it runs in the session you already have open in your browser — and it sends your files to the Freediver app and nowhere else.

Step by step

Step 1: Install the extension

Open Fit Sync in the Chrome Web Store and add it to your browser. Pin the icon to your toolbar — you will use it every time you sync.

On a computer only. Extensions run in desktop Chrome — Chrome on a phone or tablet does not support them, so Fit Sync cannot be installed there. Once your history is across, later sessions go straight from your phone.

Step 2: Connect it to your account

Click the extension icon and pick the Freediver app as the destination. It shows a link that takes you straight to the approval page in the Freediver app — confirm there while signed in. There is nothing to copy across and no code to type.

Once approved, the extension flips to the connected state on its own, so you can close its window while that happens. The approval link is good for about a quarter of an hour; if it lapses, ask for a new one.

Step 3: Choose how far back to look

You get ready-made spans — a week, a month, a year or 10 years — or an exact date range of your own. From the second sync onwards there is also an option to fetch only new dives, starting where you left off. So after every trip you come back to the same extension and pick up what has arrived since, in one press.

If you have several seasons behind you, working in shorter windows — season by season — is easier than one jump through the whole history. Shorter windows search faster and are simpler to check.

Step 4: Review what it found

The extension lists the sessions from the window you picked. Untick the ones you do not want to bring across, and set the discipline on the rest.

Every session arrives tagged as CWT, because a FIT file does not record the discipline — your watch simply does not know it. Change it right there in the list (including all sessions at once, if the whole day was one discipline), or fix it later on the workout itself.

Step 5: Upload your dives

Press upload and that is it. You can close the extension window — the sync keeps running in the background. Dives uploaded earlier are recognised and skipped, so repeating the same window duplicates nothing.

Step 6: Check your calendar

Dives land on the dates they were actually dived, carrying their profile, max depth and time. Days where you had no workout planned get one created for you, named the way the app would name it — for example "42m CWT · 12 dives".

If a day already has a workout you planned, the extension does not guess — it asks which workout the dive belongs to. That is one of the few things you cannot undo later, so the call stays yours.

Good to know

  • Depth freediving only. The extension picks up "Apnea Diving" activities — pool and scuba sessions are left alone.
  • Watch first, extension second. If a dive is missing from the list, sync your watch with the Garmin Connect app and search again.
  • The discipline can always be fixed. Just edit the workout in the Freediver app — the import settles nothing permanently.
  • You can cut access at any time. In your profile, go to Connections and remove the entry under Wearable Links.
  • Later sessions go straight from your phone. After each time in the water, send them from the Garmin Dive app — there is a separate guide for that.
