How to Send a Dive Session from the Garmin Dive App
Sessions recorded in Garmin Dive land in your training log — no computer, no files to download, just a few taps.
Send a session from Garmin Dive to the Freediver app
Your watch records every trip to depth as its own session in the Garmin Dive app. From there you export it as a FIT file and hand it straight to the Freediver app, which adds the dives to a workout you planned or creates a new one. iOS and Android work exactly the same way.
Step by step
Step 1: Open the session in Garmin Dive
In the Garmin Dive app, open the session you want to bring across.

Step 2: Export the FIT file
Open the session menu (the three dots in the top right) and choose Export Dive as FIT File. Garmin prepares the original file your watch recorded — the same one the Freediver app reads.

Step 3: Hand the file to the Freediver app
Your phone shows the apps the file can be passed to. Pick the Freediver app — the file goes there directly, with nothing to save anywhere and nothing to dig out of your downloads folder later.

Step 4: Wait for the upload
The Freediver app opens its import screen and sends the file — you see its name, its size and a progress bar. A moment later comes the summary: how many dives were detected in the file and the dive session date.

Step 5: Link the session to a workout
The app lists the depth workouts from the day of the dive. You have two routes:
- The workout already exists — select it in the list and confirm with Link dive session. The dives join the session you planned, so plan and execution sit together.
- There was no workout that day — you see "No depth workouts on this date." Pick a primary discipline (CWT, CWTB, FIM, CNF, hang or other) and tap Create new workout.
The date can be changed with the dropdown at the top — handy when a dive fell just before midnight or you came back from another time zone.

Done — the session sits on the workout
Or from your browser
The same FIT file can be uploaded from a computer. Open the import page, point it at the file you exported from Garmin Dive, and go through the same screen as on the phone: pick that day's workout or create a new one with a discipline. Files can be up to 8 MB — a single session fits with room to spare.

Good to know
- One file is a whole session. Every dive from one trip into the water uploads together, with its profile and depths.
- The discipline can be fixed later. Just edit the workout in the app.
- Uploading the same file again breaks nothing. The Freediver app tells you the session is already in your log.
- Got a whole history to move? Session by session would be a long road — a separate guide shows how to pull it all out of Garmin Connect at once.
